Xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis
Xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis is a rare inflammatory disease of the gallbladder. It is found in 1-8% of those removed surgically.
It is important because:
- it can be confused with carcinoma at operation
- it has a tendency to form fistulas into neighbouring structures such as the duodenum
