Principal bronchi
The trachea divides into two principal bronchi, one on each side to the respective lung, at the inferior border of the manubrium sternii - the tracheal bifurcation:
- left principal bronchus
- right principal bronchus
They form the conduit for air transfer between trachea and lung hila. Macro- and microscopically, the main bronchi closely resemble the trachea.
The main bronchi ramify into lobar bronchi.
