The risk groups for pilonidal sinuses are:

  • dark-haired, hirsute men.
  • hairdressers - sometimes get pilonidal sinuses in the webs between the fingers (2)
  • farmers may develop pilonidal sinuses in their skin webs as a result of implanted hairs from farm animals.
