Cationic proteins

Cationic proteins are proteins contained with lysosomes of neutrophils. They produce a range of effects during inflammation:

  • cause degranulation of mast cells with histamine release
  • increase vascular permeability directly
  • promote chemotaxis of neutrophils
  • inhibit movement of neutrophils and eosinophils
