Secondary tumours of biliary tree

Authoring team

Metastases in hilar nodes may cause biliary obstruction which is difficult to distinguish from primary carcinoma. They are effectively treated by stenting.

Metastases in the liver itself may also compress the hilar ducts.

Metastases to the biliary tree itself are extremely rare, but have been reported from melanomas.
