Iliac tubercle

Having palpated the iliac crests with the fingers, keep the thumbs on the anterior superior iliac spines. The fingers of both hands are advanced anteriorly and slightly laterally along the subcutanous borders of the crests.

Bilateral prominences are felt 2-3cm superolateral to the anterior superior iliac spines. These are the iliac tubercles. They mark the widest part of the iliac crests.
