Pneumonia during immunosuppression
The pneumonia caught under these circumstances depends quite heavily on the underlying illness:
- multiple myeloma - pneumococcal
- neutropenia:
- gram negatives and fungi, e.g. aspergillus
- T lymphocyte depletion:
- intracellular pathogens, e.g. mycobacteria, legionella
- fungus, e.g. PCP, aspergillus.
- virus, e.g. cytomegalovirus.
- transplant recipient:
- bacterial pneumonia, e.g. gram negatives, mycobacterial
- cytomegalovirus
- aspergillus
- pneumocystis
