Nasopharyngeal airway
Nasopharyngeal airways are used in a patient with signs of airway obstruction but relatively conscious.
Nasopharyngeal airways are used to maintain the airway in patients with partially obstructed airways.
A nasopharyngeal airway should never be inserted when a cribriform plate fracture is suspected.
When inserting, one should lubricate with jelly, insert into a naris - nasal opening - and advance in the direction of the ear.
