Relaxation therapy may take place in groups e.g. yoga or in one-to-one sessions with the therapist.

Most relaxation techniques train the patient to relax muscles by cycles of contraction and relaxation. Initially each muscle group is relaxed individually; later, the patient may become able to rapidly relax muscles throughout the body.
