Secondary prevention of PTSD
Secondary prevention of PTSD aims to prevent the establishment of maladaptive cognitive and behavioural patterns.
Commonly used approaches include:
- critical incident counselling
- psychological debriefing
Both approaches encourage cognitive and emotional processing of the traumatic event.
There is no good evidence that secondary prevention of PTSD is effective.
