Diazepam

This is a benzodiazepine anxiolytic available in 2 and 5 mg capsules and tablets and 10mg tablets. Daily dose is 6 to 30 mg except in the young or in the elderly. The starting dose is 2mg t.d.s.; 5mg t.d.s. is the usual dose.

The half-life is about 3 days.

A special use of diazepam is intravenously in status epilepticus.
