Radiotherapy plus hyperthermia for advanced pelvic tumours

PROSPECTIVE, RANDOMISED, MULTICENTRE TRIAL

This prospective, randomised, multicentre tial investigated the effect of adding pelvic hyperthermia treatment to standard radiotherapy in patients with advanced pelvic tumours.

The pelvic tumours assessed were:

  • bladder (stage T2, T3, T4, N0, M0)
  • cervix (stage IIB, IIIB, IV)
  • rectum (stage M0-1)

176 patients were randomised to radiotherapy alone and 182 were randomised to radiotherapy plus hyperthermia.
