Sugars

Sugars are carbohydrate molecules which are:

  • sweet to taste
  • crystalline
  • dissolvable in water

They include monosaccharides and disaccharides. Refined sugars are less desirable than complex carbohydrates as a source of energy in a balanced diet.

'Sugar' is commonly taken to mean refined sucrose (table sugar).
