Osteoid osteoma is a benign type of bone forming tumour, clearly related to but more common than osteoblastoma, distinguished principally by size - the osteoid osteoma is a smaller lesion, at less than 1cm.
It is found principally in the shafts of long bones, especially the femur and the tibia. It may occur in the spine and give rise to scoliosis in children and adolescents.
The condition affects males more commonly than females and is most often found in adolescents and young adults.
Treatment is by excision.
