Marie's spastic ataxia is a variant of Friedreich's ataxia associated with features of a progressive spastic paraplegia. The symptom is more marked than that seen in Friedreich's ataxia.

The spastic ataxia can be associated with optic atrophy, nystagmus, dysarthria and dystonic choreoathetosis.
