Investigations
If the diagnosis is clinically fairly certain, a nasopharyngeal aspirate - NPA - may be the only investigation required, with oxygen saturations measured with a pulse oximeter.
If the condition deteriorates, or if there is severe hypoxia, then
- chest radiograph
- blood gases give important management criteria
