Damage to eyelid skin secondary to a burn injury may require later excision of the area of scarring. Ideally, the scar should be excised down to the orbicularis oculi muscle. A split thickness skin graft is then applied.
Residual problem with eyelid closure should be treated with repeat grafting. Although controversial, tarsorrhaphy tends to produce a less functional result.
