Vincristine, vinblastine and vindesine are derived from the periwinkle plant. These compounds act by binding to the tubulin monomers and inhibiting polymerization. Disruption of microtubule formation inhibits mitosis.

Cellular resistance to these drugs has been attributed to a reduction in membrane transport.
