The transverse anterior superior mediastinal lymph nodes are a group of 3-4 nodes passing between the right and left anterior superior groups. They are sited around the anterior and posterior surfaces of the left brachiocephalic vein. They are interconnected with each other by fine lymphatic channels.
One particular node sits superior to the bifurcation of the superior vena cava into two brachiocephalic trunks. This is the node of Bartels.
