Improving efficacy
Chemotherapeutic drug efficacy can be improved by:
- alternating non-cross resistant regimens
- high dose therapy with rescue of normal tissues - eg autologous bone marrow transplant
- optimum dose intensity - seen in retrospective data
- improved scheduling - e.g. etoposide in small cell lung cancer
- reduction in myelotoxicity - colony stimulating factors, stem cell infusions
