Intramedullary
Causes of spinal cord compression which arise from within the spinal medulla include:
- tumours:
- primary - most common; usually, ependymoma, astrocytoma
- metastatic - less common; from bronchial primary tumour or seeding from malignant intracranial tumour
- syringomyelia
- cyst - from degeneration of intramedullary tumour
- intramedullary haematoma - haematomyelia
