Aetiology of PPH
Uterine atony is the commonest cause of postpartum haemorrhage (90%).
Other causes include:
- retained placenta
- soft tissue lacerations
- uterine inversion
- coagulation disorders eg. von Willebrands disease, idiopathic thrombocytopaenia, liver disease
