Diagnosis of postmaturity

Authoring team

The diagnosis of postmaturity is often very uncertain.

Antenatal records should be consulted for accurate predictors of the gestational age. Relevant information includes:

  • a certain LMP in a woman with regular periods
  • a bimanual examination between the 8th and 14th weeks of gestation
  • a crown-rump measurement (1st trimester) or biparietal diameter (2nd trimester) by ultrasound scan
