Lumbocostal triangle
The vertebrocostal triangle is the area between:
- inferiorly, the 12th rib
- laterally, the ascending costal part of the diaphragm
- medially, the lateral arcuate ligament
Normally, it is covered by a connective tissue membrane that divides pleura superiorly from peritoneum inferiorly. If the interposing layer fails to develop, it can develop into the foramen of Bochdalek.
