- check foetal size
- careful assessment, monitoring
- episiotomy usually required if vaginal delivery
- in a mentoanterior presentation normal vaginal delivery should be the ideal; in cases of delayed second stage, forceps should be used
- persistent mentoposterior makes vaginal delivery almost impossible
