Management
The management of social phobia consists of:
- cognitive behavioural therapy
- pharmacological therapy:
- beta-blockers may reduce symptoms during feared situations
- benzodiazepines occasionally may used for short periods - this is because of the risk of dependency
- SSRI's may be effective in social phobia
- NICE suggest (1) suggest either escitalopram or sertraline to be the SSRIs to be used in this condition
