Treatment
Criteria for admission of children with malnutrition include:
- weight less than 60% of normal for population
- oedema
- poor appetite
- infection
Priorities of treatment are as follows:
- correct dehydration
- treat infections, trying to avoid the use of intravenous drugs in oedematous patients
- give supplements
- give calories
