High voltage electrical injury can produce massive, often lethal, damage. It causes damage by two mechanisms: flash burns and current transmission.

Additionally, there may be indirect injury resulting from:

  • severe muscular spasm causing fractures of bones and dislocations of joints
  • the environment of the injury: classically, a fall from the electric pylon or similarly elevated high-tension source after the shock can result in blunt injury
