Causes in later life
The causes of spastic and ataxic paraparesis in later life include:
- multiple sclerosis
- infarction in the internal capsule or the upper pons causing an ataxic hemiparesis
- syringomyelia
- lesion at the craniospinal junction, e.g. tumour
