There is a five fold difference in the incidence of breast cancer in western countries compared with far eastern countries. When migrants move from Japan to Hawaii however, the rates of breast cancer in migrants rapidly assume the rate of the host country within one or two generations. This suggests that environmental factors are important in the aetiology of breast cancer.
