Differential diagnosis
- senile retinoschisis:
- the inner wall is immobile
- frequently bilateral
- choroidal detachment:
- pigment epithelium still visible
- not limited by the ora serrata
- other causes of photopsia:
- postural hypotension
- migraine
- choroidal tumours
- optic nerve pathology
- transient ischaemic attacks
- other causes of floaters:
- posterior vitreous detachment
- vitreous haemorrhage (diabetic retinopathy, trauma)
- uveitis
- age related macular degeneration (1)
