Authoring team

As with any disease occurring in adults and in children, there are overlaps but the paediatric disease is not simply the same but in smaller people. Of particular importance in this population are:

  • developmental delay
  • spastic diplegia
  • failure to thrive
  • the usual bacterial infections of childhood
  • respiratory complications, such as pneumocystis carinii pneumonia, but also importantly lymphocytic interstitial pneumonitis
  • diarrhoea secondary to cryptosporidial infection
  • Kaposi sarcoma
