Choreo-athetoid syndromes
Choreo-athetoid syndromes are caused by pathology in the basal ganglia, and are distinct from the other principle lesion syndrome of the basal ganglia - parkinsonism.
Features include:
- involuntary movements both at rest and during activity
- a range of muscle tone findings
- diverse postural abnormalities
- normal speed of movement
- no weakness
