baclofen is a gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) analogue - it reduces the release of excitatory transmitters in the spinal cord via the inhibition of firing of alpha- and gamma-motor neurones
there is evidence that baclofen reduces the severity and frequency of clonus and spasticity (1)
side effects include confusion, hypotonia, muscle weakness, fatigue and drowsiness. Abrupt withdrawal of this drug can result in visual hallucinations, cardiac arrhythmias and convulsions
