A rare problem, tuberculosis of the elbow initially presents with marked local swelling and muscle wasting. There may be a history of prolonged, prodromal aching and stiffness.
In the active phase, the elbow is classically warm, diffusely tender, and has limited movement that is accompanied by pain and spasm.
Radiologically, there is generalised rarefaction and an increase in joint space due to bone erosion.
Antituberculous drugs are the mainstays of management. Splintage and a cuff may be further requirements.
