Complications of the surgical treatment of radial dysplasia include:

  • wound margin necrosis
  • K wire breakage or migration
  • wrist stiffness, particularly limited extension and ulnar deviation
  • wrist instability
  • recurrent deformity, particularly carpal subluxation
  • growth arrest of ulna due to damage to the ulna epiphysis; procedures such as centralization can reduce ulnar growth potential when compared to a non-operated limb and have been suggested to be due to increased loading pressure on the distal end of the ulna
