Sternal end

Authoring team

The sternal end of the clavicle slants from superomedial to inferolateral. It has an articular area that is covered by fibrocartilage. This articulates with the manubrium sternii to form the manubriosternal joint. The periphery of the articular surface is attached to the capsule of this joint.

The articular surface has a facet for the disc of the sternoclavicular joint which is attached posterosuperiorly. Inferior to the disc, the surface articulates with the first costal cartilage.
