Bone abscess (chronic)
A Brodie's abscess is a localised pyogenic abscess cavity arising in the metaphysis of one or more long bones - in particular the tibia and the femur.
This condition develops insidiously, often with no prior symptoms.
The abscess cavity is lined with granulation tissue and there is a surrounding reactive bone sclerosis.
In established infection treatment involves excision and sequestrectomy.
