At first radiology in patients with this condition is normal. After several months there is an erosive arthritis of large joints.
If this condition affects the sacroiliac and vertebral joints then similar changes are seen to those found in ankylosing spondylitis. Thus, at first there may be fuzziness or frank erosion of sacroiliac joints. These joints become sclerosed and, gradually, completely ankylosed. A 'bamboo spine' may be seen as a result of ossification across the intervertebral discs producing bony bridges that span the gaps between adjacent vertebrae.
