Prognosis
The prognosis is based mostly upon the underlying aetiology; poor prognosis is seen in:
- structural anomalies
- severe birth asphyxia
- severe intraventricular haemorrhage
- early hypocalcaemia
The prognosis is also worsened in:
- early onset
- prolonged, frequent seizures
- poor response to medication
- recurrence over a period of days
- preterm delivery; low birth weight
- established neurological signs
