Treatment
- only required for severe acute pulmonary histoplasmosis and acute disseminated histoplasmosis
- treatment of choice is amphotericin
- less toxic antifungal agents such as ketoconazole, itraconazole and fluconazole may be effective
- surgical intervention may be required for the excision of histoplasmomas or chronic cavitatory lung lesions
