Presentation in children
The child presents with:
- pain
- malaise
- fever
- septicaemia, if the presentation is late
There may be a recent history of localised sepsis, for example a boil.
The child will refuse to use a limb:
- touching or moving the adjacent joint is impossible
- there is local redness, warmth and oedema
