Castleman's syndrome is characterised by benign hyperplasia of lymph nodes.
The lymph node hyperplasia is often in mediastinal nodes although cervical, retroperitoneal or mesenteric nodes may be affected.
Despite 10% of patients suffering constitutional symptoms such as sweating and weight loss, removal of the tumour results in very good outcome.
Development of lymphoma is rare.
POEMS syndrome may be present in cases of Castleman's syndrome.
