Haematological consequences
These include:
- increased white cell count, initially polymorphs, later lymphocytes and monocytes
- increased platelets, which is fairly acute, starting to fall again after one or two weeks
- target cell formation
- increased reticulocyte count
- Howell-Jolly bodies
- Heinz bodies
- siderocytes
