Prognostic indicators
The main prognostic factor is patient age at presentation.
Poor prognosis is suggested by:
- age > 60 years
- history of myelodysplasia or myeloproliferative disease
- AML following exposure to cytotoxic drugs
- WBC > 50 x 10^9 / litre
- AML with features of trilineage dysplasia
- CNS or other extramedullary disease at presentation
- certain chromosome abnormalities e.g. monosomy 5 & 7
