Platelet disorders
The formation of the initial platelet plug is an important component of normal haemostasis.
Platelet disorders may lead to a bleeding disorder, the causes include:
- too few platelets - thrombocytopaenia
- abnormal platelet function - thrombocytopathy:
- congenital
- acquired
Thrombocytopaenia accounts for the majority of cases.
