Clnical features
The principal manifestations of CMV infection in AIDS are:
- in the eye, with retinitis
- in the gastrointestinal tract, where it may cause lower oesophageal ulceration and an ascending colitis causing diarrhoea
- adrenalitis
Less common in AIDS, but more important in immunosuppressed individuals is involvement of the lung.
