  • excessive myelosuppression may produce irreversible, unpredictable bone marrow aplasia, and so frequent full blood counts are necessitated
  • hyperpigmentation of the skin is a common side-effect
  • rarely, progressive pulmonary fibrosis may occur
  • sterility
