Differential diagnosis
The differential diagnosis of aplastic anaemia is effectively, exclusion of other causes of pancytopenia:
- other bone marrow disorders:
- myelodysplasia
- acute leukaemia
- myelofibrosis
- infiltrative disease - lymphoma, myeloma, carcinoma, hairy cell leukaemia
- megaloblastic anaemia
- non-marrow disorders:
- hypersplenism
- systemic lupus erythematous
- infection - tuberculosis, AIDS, brucellosis, leishmaniasis
