  • cervical abnormalities (e.g., excessive friability, malignancy, polyps, trauma)
  • ectopic pregnancy
  • idiopathic bleeding in a viable intrauterine pregnancy
  • vaginal or cervical infection
  • molar pregnancy
  • subchorionic haemorrhage
  • vaginal trauma
